Environmental Management

The spaceship Earth is enveloped in an atmosphere that mutates with increasing tendency to threaten life on the planet. People are beginning to understand that natural resources are not inexhaustible. It is a pity that the wake-up call "The Limits to Growth", sent in 1972 by the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) think tank, was not heard at the time and no effective measures were derived from it! Is it 5 to 12? Or is it already too late?Panic is not a good guide. Therefore, everyone should decide for themselves what they can do for the environment every day. Demos may help raise awareness, but radicalization can do the opposite. The demos themselves are not an effective measure for reducing greenhouse gases. There is also a risk that they will be misused for other purposes. Promising simple, short-term solutions to complex problems is irresponsible and populist. It is naturally expected that politicians will create framework conditions to combat the sustainable fight against global warming. To blame everything on the state is nonsensical, as long as each of us in daily life thoughtlessly contaminates the environment of the spaceship Earth with his behavior. What would be meaningful, effective measures on a daily basis? Daily for today, so to speak!A look in your own paper, residual waste and plastic waste bins and in the supermarket shopping trolley could help to find ideas.Other personal measures would be, for example: electricity, water consumption, consumer behavior, waste of heating energy, unnecessary journeys with vehicles, neglect of public transport, disposable behavior. The requirements for organizations and their manufacturing processes for environmental protection apply in a special way to effectively influence climate change. The environmental reports and the agreements between the manufacturers and their suppliers show that a rethink has taken place, at least externally. Here and there, however, there is a lack of implementation. There is a trend towards more environmental protection, and important steps have been taken or initiated. The organizational framework for this should be a standardized environmental management system (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001. At the end of 2018, 307,059 organizations in 171 countries were certified according to ISO 14001: 2015 according to ISO statistics. However, the UMS certificate alone is no guarantee of the effectiveness of the measures. We recommend introducing a lean, sustainable management system in which quality, the environment and product / process safety are integrated in a control loop. A company-specific risk management should not be missing in this combination.
